I took the plunge and left my office job 3 years ago now to follow my passion. My friend from work, Ann, had recently lost her dog and I asked if I could paint him, his name was Buddy. I did not expect to get such a picture with long hair and so many colours…. I was a little intimidated but I stepped up to the challenge. This was my first pet portrait commission, and it took me about 6 months to complete, as I wanted to do a good job. I was so nervous about showing her the final product, but she loved it and posted it to her facebook right away. I thought I was going to die, she had a lot of followers, but people’s reactions were great. We traded services when I gave her the painting to create a business website for me, and I have never looked back. A few commissions trickled in from there, and a few became a lot, and here I am with a full time business and loving what I do. I have Buddy to thank for all of it. When I'm not sketching and drawing, I also look after dogs during my workday. Can't get enough of them! My hobbies outside of this - I love making jewelry, camping and hiking when I get the chance!
I am proud to be part Metis, and as far as back as I can remember, I have loved to draw and paint. I've always felt a connection with animals and nature. I never considered to go into a full time art career at the time. Getting back to it as an adult it brought me so much happiness and fulfillment I decided to get serious about it. I have taken many classes and currently have professional artists as mentors for all my work, I am always looking to improve and learn new methods.
I use a variety of mediums, such as pastels, coloured pencils, and acrylics. I don't want to limit myself, and plan to dabble with most mediums during my art career. I do most of my pet portraits in pastel, because I love how soft the fur looks with this medium. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
I paint all kinds of animals, not just dogs! I will make sure that it is perfect and portrays everything special just for you.
